When it comes to staying inspired or motivated, everyone has their own vice that works for them. Some people prefer to set goals for themselves, take a vacation, meditate, read a novel, engage in a workout class and so on. Personally, I’ve found my own muse through the millennial world of technology and a life-changing podcast called, “The Second Life”.
Hosted by Hillary Kerr, co-founder of Who What Wear, The Second Life podcast is about following your passion no matter what stage in your life. Each episode is about an hour long featuring a different interviewee. No big deal but guests such as, Jessica Alba, Lauren Conrad, Jennifer Lopez, Shay Mitchell and Busy Phillips are just to name a few. These incredibly, career-driven women are one of the many reasons I was drawn to this podcast but they aren’t the only reason. What really makes this podcast stand out is the complete transparency to exactly how they accomplished such milestones to get to where they are now. Every single detail of their journey is discussed from ultimate failures to major successes, making each story surprisingly relatable.
Hillary Kerr does an amazing job of asking questions we haven’t already heard a million times from talk show hosts, radio interviews or the red carpet. She keeps it strictly professional by only asking career-specific questions we all want to know. Check out my personal favorite episodes so far.
Anastasia Soare
The CEO and Founder of Anastasia Beverly Hills, a cosmetics company valued at roughly $3 billion with 19 million Instagram followers, walks listeners through her journey as a Romanian immigrant with a dream. Anastasia, who didn’t speak a word of English, began her career as an esthetician in Los Angeles. She quickly learned and perfected the art of symmetric eyebrow shape where she was able to attract high-profile clientele, eventually leading to the launch of her own business.
Aimee Song
With over 5 million Instagram followers and her own online brand, “Song of Style”, Aimee Song has become one of the most influential bloggers of our time. She is a New York Times Bestselling Author of 2 books, Capture Your Style and World of Style, who made the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in 2016. Her story is one of struggle and inspiration as she details her start as a blogger nearly a decade ago to her mega-influencer status today.
Shani Darden
If you follow stars like Jessica Alba, Shay Mitchell or Kim Kardashian on social media then you’ve probably heard the name Shani Darden mentioned at least once by now. Most known for her namesake skincare line and cult-favorite Retinol Reform serum, Darden had a very interesting boost to her career. While working in LA at a local salon giving facials, she met Jessica Alba, who eventually let Darden work out of her house to start her own facial spa. If this isn’t BFF goals then I don’t know what is.
